Who signs a 20-year lease these days? That’s a question the team at Woodard & Curran had to answer when they moved into their new headquarters in Maine. As employers, Woodard & Curran wanted a way to create a compelling space to support their team. As engineers focusing on clean water and healthy environments, sustainability was top of mind. How could they create a flagship office to fit their needs today and support them two decades on?

The answer was DIRTT. With the help of workplace evolution experts and circularity consultants, they envisioned a space using a thoughtful kit of parts. This activated the Circular Economy principle to keep products and materials in play at their highest value. With DIRTT’s design integration software ICE, they built all wall and door assemblies to a consistent height and width. This results in a space that quickly converts as the needs of the organization change. DIRTT modular components disassemble easily for clean reconfiguration. Evolving from a one-person focus room to a two-person huddle room, to a four-person meeting room takes a few hours rather than a few weeks. They can do this because recycled aluminum wall frames clad in strong MDF are 15 times more durable than drywall. That means both DIRTT and Woodard & Curran’s space are built to last.
